Posted in Porsche on August 4th, 2010 by adminThe video featuring a Porsche Cayman Shooting-Brake that captured the imagination of many viewers and fooled even the most experienced automotive bloggers has turned out to be a prank by ex-editor of the U.S. Top Gear, Jared Holstein.
Holstein came clean and owned up to the fake viral video, stating that he and some site interns had created it. Using 3D animation software, one of the interns, a Matt Du Vall, created the image that was used in the video that fooled many of us. Although the video appeared to have been shot in Europe, the actual shooting was done in Brooklyn. The video was then placed on a Czech site to hide its source. Many leading car websites which ran the story felt a little foolish to find out it had all been a sham. So why did they do it? Holstein said that the team was simply curious to see whether they could create a Shooting Brake video, since it had never been done before.
